Come closer

We were tasked to develop the control software for an interactive installation using a Flip-Dot display. The first time I saw one of those was around 2008 at metro stations in Brussels. The displays had to permanently change their contents to switch between Dutch and French every few seconds. I was intrigued by the flipping motion in which the dots update. So I was really happy about to be able to finally work with this fascinating kind of display :)

The display modules were made by Alfazeta, probably the only company manufacturing those displays. I added support for 28x7 pixel modules to our versatile open-source ledbridge software and ran some tests. Then we developed the interaction together with our client. When everything was ready it was put on a Raspberry Pi which controls the installation.
